WHY JOIN?

To increase the voice of neighborhoods, civic , tenant or community associations and condominium owners in decisions made throughout the City that affect all of us – traffic and transportation, development, open space, schools, parks and recreation, the environment, housing, City finance and budget decisions, among others.

In addition joining the Alexandria Federation of Civic Associations gives you the opportunity to:

  • Meet and interact with other community leaders
  • Contribute your ideas, needs and information
  • Learn about important developments and activities in Alexandria
  • Meet with City government officials on important concerns

This year we want to broaden our base of participation and welcome those not recently active or are new to participating in a civic role. For condominium or other groups not usually active in the Federation, we would be glad to invite speakers that address issues particular to your situations.

Membership Year and Voting

The Alexandria Federation of Civic Associations (AFCA or the Federation) membership year runs from September through June of the following year. The Federation holds a general meeting on the last Wednesday of each month, except for December, July and August.

To be eligible as a voting member of the Federation, your Association must be organized for non-partisan civic purposes and have members representing 25 or more households. An Association having fewer than 25 member households may join as a non-voting member of the Federation.

Each AFCA member is entitled to designate three delegates and three alternate delegates from their organization. When voting occurs at a general meeting, only one Delegate per organization in good standing may cast a vote on behalf of its delegation.

Membership Invitation

The Alexandria Federation of Civic Associations cordially invites your Alexandria, Virginia civic, citizen, community, condominium, and tenant association to join our citywide group.

Complete and submit the prescribed AFCA Membership Form by mail for review, along with a $30 check payable to AFCA Treasurer.

Please indicate which AFCA Membership Year you wish to apply for. If you would like a receipt, please provide a valid email address on the AFCA Membership Form.

For voting purposes, be sure to designate your organization's Delegation Head, the number of households being represented, the Association President, two additional Delegates, and optional three Alternate Delegates.
